Shimmy Shami, the goat, had long white wild hair and wild thoughts in her head. She dreamed of wild adventures. As she looked out of the window of the farm truck, she danced in delight, a flamboyant, flapper style dance.
But, suddenly, the truck slowed, and she saw that her adventures were about to come to an end. Here was an ordinary barn, with ordinary chickens and an ordinary goat companion to greet her. Her whole goat being rebelled. She broke free from her collar and raced headlong into the great unknown.
It was a bold and daring move. She raced and pranced, but soon found herself in a cold, wet, muddy place with only some dry, bristly, brambles for food.
"Well, this IS adventure." thought Shimmy Shami, and she pranced a little goat dance to keep herself warm.
After some time, an unfamiliar farmer came and offered Shimmy Shami some tasty food. Reluctantly, she allowed herself to be led to his barn, but she was still determined to have an adventure.
Once again, Shimmy Shammi was brought back to her ordinary barn, with the ordinary chickens and the ordinary goat companion.
"What sort of adventure is this?" scoffed the goat.
Shimmy Shami went on a rampage. She thundered about the barn to destroy what she could. She butted into the woman who came to feed and milk her. She tore a hole in her stall and nipped at the chickens and the other goat. She even refused her food. What else could she do? She had tried to turn the ordinary barn into a wild adventure, but it still seemed ordinary.
At last, the woman opened the gate in the fence, held it open on purpose, and said "Go!"
So Shimmy Shami went. It was the first time she had been INVITED to go for a wild adventure. Her dream was coming true. The moon was full and glowing. There was empty space all around. The Shami goat shimmered in the moon beams and danced a dance of joy!
When she was finished, Shimmy Shami returned to the barn to rest in its sheltering safety. She had, had her wild adventure!
But, there was more. The fence's gate was now always left open. Shimmy Shami and her ordinary goat companion were trusted to wander about the yard and garden, like well trained dogs.
A calm Shimmy Shami became an ordinary goat, in an ordinary barn. She had no more rampages or thunderous moods. She was a trustworthy goat, who could come and go as she wanted. Life was now extra-ordinary, full of potential, wonderful, wild adventures!
