Today is Saturday and Papa has the day off from work. He has many jobs to do around the house, so he needs lots of help. Coby and Jem follow him down to the basement for tools.
All the tools are on the work bench. Coby brings the nails and hammer. Jem brings the drill, tape measure and wrench. Papa carries the step ladder and blow torch.
Mama wants a new picture hung in the livingroom. Papa measures where it will go. Then he climbs the ladder and Jem holds it in place.
"I'm ready for the hammer and one nail please." says Papa.
Coby hands up the hammer and the nail. Soon the picture is up.
"Is it straight?" asks Papa.
They adjust it and soon it is perfect.
"Now we're going to repair the hose spigot in the garden." says Papa. "I will get the pipes from the car."
"I'll get the solder and another wrench." say Jem.
"I'll help you with the pipes, Papa." says Coby. "They are long and heavy."
Papa heats the pipes with a blow torch. Jem hands him the wrench. Soon the pipe is fixed.
"Now we can water the garden." Coby shouts.
Papa connects the hose and Coby gives all the plants a long drink. Papa brings the extra pipes and tools back to the basement.
"What will we do next?" asks Jem.
"Lets prune the peach tree." says Papa.
SNIP go the pruning shears. Coby and Jem take the branches to the compost pile.
"Save some to play with." Coby suggests. "We can make some houses later, with the sticks."
"Time for lunch." says Mama. "I'm sure these excellent helpers are ready for some olive soup! Maybe tomorrow they will help me."
Papa, Coby and Jem all wash their hands. Everyone enjoys a delicious lunch."We got many jobs done." says Papa. "It would not have been so fast without my helpers. Thanks Coby and Jem!"
