Cousin Carl is an artist, cartoonist and author. He draws pictures for children's books and illustrates fables and stories. Sometimes he draws coloring book pictures for kids to color in.
Kiki was two years old when Carl came to visit. It was a long trip from his house, and he had many places to visit before he arrived. He was so busy that when he got to our house, he wanted to sleep.
When Carl woke up, he felt more rested. He came to draw pictures for Kiki on the big black board in the living room. First he drew this:
He teased Kiki, because he is always teasing other people.
"What is it?" he asked.

"And now?" asked Carl, finishing it up
"A water hose." said Kiki.
Carl clucked his tongue and tried another.
"OK." he said when he was done. "What's this?"
"A water hose." said Kiki seriously.
Carl slapped his forehead, but tried again. Maybe all this traveling was affecting his artistic abilities.
"And now?" he asked when he was done."What is this one?"
"A water hose." said Kiki. Young Kiki's favorite thing to play with was water. He loved playing with pipes and hoses, splashing in the sink, pouring water and swimming.
"I give up." said Carl. Someone joking with him was almost a new experience.
He drew this:
And then Carl went off to have a nap.
